Beyond Scared Straight -Juvenile Justice Reform: Judge ups sentence for ex-juvenile probation officer

LAS CRUCES – A judge doubled the sentence for a fired Juvenile Probation & Parole officer who arrived at jail drunk, then failed to return after being referred to a local hospital. Robert S. “Rocky” Jaurequi, 45, was allowed to self-surrender to the Do-a Ana County Detention Center to begin a 10-day sentence for aggravated drunken driving, but had been drinking whiskey when he arrived Monday and never returned to jail after being ordered to go to the emergency room for a medical clearance. State District Court Judge Douglas Driggers on Thursday ordered Jaurequi serve 20 days in jail – less than Deputy District Attorney Janice Schryer’s initial request of 30 days, since Jaurequi had allegedly been seen buying alcohol and intoxicated in public, and far less than the maximum 90 days he could have imposed.
