A new state law signed by the governor today will crack down on pimps and those who profit from prostitution with heavy new sentences and will also allow judges to use protective care orders to rescue teen girls from prostitution.“The goal is to save the lives of these children who start as runaways and then become prostitutes,” said state Sen. Jennifer L. Flanagan, D-Leominster, a leading backer of the bill, who once worked as a counselor to troubled teens at You Inc. Until now, she said, even juveniles charged with prostitution were treated as criminals.
