Joe Donovan-Life Without Parole

Via Scoop.itJuvenile Defendants

On May 10 at 8 p.m., NECN is debuting a one-hour documentary focused on the 1992 case of an East Cambridge man convicted as a teenager of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing of Norwegian MIT student Yngve Raustein. Joseph Donovan of East Cambridge (above) is still sitting in prison with no chance of ever being freed. Even though he only punched Raustein during the incident, Donovan was convicted of first-degree murder and given the mandatory sentence of life without parole. NECN talks to Donovan, as well as jury members who now say the sentence was too harsh and travels to Norway to interview Raustein’s family.
